Some have said it’s like wearing a wood-burning stove. Filled with goose down that compresses to fit into tight spaces and lofts back up into a heat-trapping cocoon, this jacket is the ultimate solution for lightweight warmth in the coldest weather.
Goose down consists of large spherical clusters of the soft under-plumage of gray geese, each cluster with thousands of soft filaments that trap heat. This is why goose down has been the champion of lightweight warmth for centuries. There simply is no insulation that is warmer and lighter. Filson uses only responsibly-sourced goose down, which means that the geese that provide it are treated humanely–never live-plucked or force-fed. All of our goose down is traceable and certified to follow the RDS (Responsible Down Standard), and is processed in bluesign®-approved facilities.
The shell and lining of this Feather Down Jacket is built with an extremely lightweight 1.4-oz. ripstop nylon with slight mechanical stretch. Because down must be kept dry to maintain its insulating ability, the shoulders, hood and pockets are reinforced with a sturdy nylon/cotton-blend treated with DWR for water resistance. The elastic binding around the hood, cuffs and hem keep warmth on the inside and cold wind on the outside. The pockets include thoughtful touches such as cotton Moleskin linings and a snap closure to keep valuables secure. The two-way front coil zipper is backed by a storm flap to stop the wind, and boasts a zipper garage to prevent pinching.
